Ten local game developers will take part in Gamescom 2019 to be held in Cologne, Germany, from Aug. 20 to 24, says the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), which will facilitate the companies’ participation.
Gamescom is the biggest game event in Europe with more than 370,000 visitors, 30,000 potential business partners and 1,037 exhibitors coming from around the world last year.
Bekraf marketing deputy Joshua Simanjuntak said the event would help local game creators to showcase their talents in the global market and engage with potential new business partners.
“We are supporting [local companies] participating in Gamescom. The big mission is to bring Indonesian talent to the international market,” Joshua said during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Bekraf, he went on to say, had shortlisted the participating companies based on their readiness to enter the global market.
The chosen companies are Agate International, MassHive Media, Megaxus Infotech, Wawa Games, Ozysoft Studio, Touchten Games, Indonesia Esports Premier League (IESPL), Komodoz, Plexus & Oray Studios and Everidea Interactive.
They are expected to promote a business-to-business (B2B), rather than a business-to-consumer (B2C), model in a bid to attract investment and open access to the global market, said Bekraf infrastructure deputy Hari Sungkari.
“Video gaming has become the biggest entertainment industry globally with a value of US$152 billion in 2019, beating conventional entertainments, such as movies and the music industry,” said Indonesian Gaming Association president Cipto Adiguno.
