The government has announced a delay in the introduction of the integrated Jakarta Outer Ring Road transaction system, thus, a delay in a planned road toll hike on Wednesday is also expected.

The Public Works and Housing Ministry said in a written statement on Tuesday that the delay was to allow the Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT) and the Toll Road Business Agency (BUJT) to familiarize road users with the plan.

The integration system aims to eliminate five tollgates, namely Meruya Utama, Meruya Utama 1, Semper Utama, Rorotan and the Pondok Ranji tollgate toward Bintaro, in order to decrease congestion.

By simplifying the transaction system, single road-toll rates would apply. Group I car users will be charged Rp 15,000 (US$1.07), while Group II and III drivers of trucks and buses will be required to pay Rp 22,500. Groups IV and V, the categories for the largest vehicles, will be charged Rp 30,000.

The ministry said the goal of the new transaction system was to increase the efficiency of travel time via one-time transactions. Currently, users of the toll road conduct two to three transactions as the tollgates on each toll road are operated under different management. (acr)
