Jakarta. Jakarta offers various attractions, from entertainment shows to a mass wedding on New Year’s Eve, while security officials will be watching over the celebrations.

The provincial government has erected four big stages in the city center — at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, on Jalan Kebon Sirih, Jalan Wahid Hasyim and Jalan Thamrin.

“Shows on the stages will start at 7:00 pm,” Bambang Sugiyono from the Jakarta administration’s secretariat told reporters on Sunday (31/12), as quoted by Antara news agency.

Along Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin, visitors can enjoy culinary attractions served by local producers from all provinces.

“Along the streets, people can participate in the Nusantara Culinary Festival and taste various culinary products from 34 provinces. There will also be a bazaar involving 100 micro, small and medium enterprises offering various products,” Bambang said.

Another unique event held by the administration is a mass wedding, in which 500 couples will tie the knot on Jalan Thamrin.

“The couples will obtain marriage certificates,” Bambang said, adding that 110 marriage registrars will take care of the documents, and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno will be present.

Television station Indosiar will have its stage at the National Monument (Monas) complex, while SCTV will hold an event at Ancol’s Karnaval Beach.

Anies and Sandiaga are expected to attend each of the mass events organized in Jakarta.

The Jakarta Police will divert traffic from Jalan Harmoni to Jalan Juanda, and only TransJakarta buses will be able to go through the city center. Jalan Veteran in front of the Presidential Palace will be closed.

Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin will be closed for car traffic from 5:00 p.m. on Sunday until 2:00 a.m. on Monday.

A fireworks show will be held at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta.

The show will start at 00:00 a.m. in the cultural complex’e Chinese area and at Lake Arsipel.

“In total there will be 6,815 fireworks shot from the two points,” TMII spokesman Jerry Lahama said, as quoted by Antara

About 60,000 visitors are expected to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Taman Mini.
