Basarnas again extended the search time for passengers and dead bodies of KM Sinar Bangun, which sank in waters off Lake Toba, North Sumatra, on Monday (18/6). The operation is extended until next Saturday (30/6).
“This is the second extension process.This is the 11th day search.” The extension operation was set for the afternoon at 18:00 WIB from the Head of Basarnas, Mr. Muhammad Syaugi, declaring the second extension from 28th to 30th of June, “said Budiawan, Head of SAR Office Medan on Thursday (28/6).
On the search of this 11th day, heavy rain had hit the area of Lake Toba waters starting at 06.00 Wib. Bad weather that makes SAR SALG join must start operation at 08.00 WIB.
The combined SAR team still uses the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) tool and trawl the tiger on the search today.
“The weather is good, it’s sunny, so we move at 08.00 WIB using ROV tools, and using trawler tiger.There are two ships KMP North Sumatra I, and KMP North Sumatra II to use trawlers in two targets we found yesterday,” said Budiawan.
A number of ways have been used by the joint SAR team to find and lift the KM Sinar Bangun carcass which is suspected to be at a depth of 490 meters. The use of ROV and trawls is expected to produce results.
“We hope that hopefully the maximum of this tool ROV and trawl the tiger,” said Budiawan.
